ESPR implementation is being phased in by product group. Even if specific requirements for a single product are not yet in effect, companies can build internal preparedness mechanisms starting with repairability, materials, product information and supply chain data.
Recommendations for inclusion in design and procurement reviews
- Product design: Pay attention to information related to product durability, maintenance, upgradeability and disassembly, and reserve space for instructions and technical documents.
- Materials and supply chain: Establish a collection mechanism for key materials and recycled materials information, and coordinate management with existing information such as RoHS and REACH.
- Market planning: Incorporate new requirements into long-term judgments in product launch and certification budgets based on target product groups and EU market rhythms.
Customer next step
Conduct an inventory of existing technical information, material declarations, maintenance instructions and supplier data, and prioritize information gaps and version management risks in electronic and electrical products.
